When someone thinks of a reel, the first thought that may come to mind is your standard garden hose reel. Many would be pleasantly surprised to find that reels can be used in a multitude of applications such as utility and fleet trucks, pest control, marine, construction, automotive, fire safety, and welding, to name a select few. Hose reels provide a cost-effective way to increase productivity; while simultaneously enhancing work site safety, efficiency, and effectiveness. The safety component is obvious. By utilizing a reeling solution, you will reduce tripping hazards by keeping excess hose up of the ground, tidy, and out of the way.

The concept of a hose is a relatively simple one, it allows for water or liquid, oil or grease, or even air, to travel from point A to point B in an efficient and controlled manner. A reel is a cylindrical spindle that is used for storing, protecting, and maintaining hose, cord, or cable. These hose reels allow for the hose to be wound up tightly, and can be portable or fixed depending on the desired application. Reels are the ideal method for hose storage, as they utilize minimal space in order to protect users from potential damage to valuable equipment and even prevent workplace injury and death. There is a hose reel for just about any application.

Reels come in different methods of retractions, sizes, materials, and accommodate different variations of hoses. They can either be fixed in a permanent location or portable (mounted to a truck, trailer, or cart).

the most common type of hose reels are:

  • Spring Driven
  • Hand Crank
  • Motorized
  • Hybrid (Hand Crank & Motorized)
  • Spring Driven - Slow Retraction (i.e. EZ-Coil)

The next blog will discuss the applications, benefits, and in-depth features of the spring driven hose reels.
